Baldwin Middle School Mathematics
Overview
The Baldwin Middle School Mathematics Program is aligned with the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards requirements. Students will be immersed yearly in 5-7 units called “modules” that reflect this curriculum. Students are encouraged to become analytic thinkers and problem solvers through the use of real world applications and the aid of technology.
Department Highlights
The Mathematics Department aspires for students to be critical thinkers and lifelong learners. Student achievement is raised through high order questions, real-life applications and cooperative learning activities. Baldwin Middle School hosts the annual Math Fair in March, at which honors students display their research projects. Additionally, students are encouraged to participate in competitions such as the Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students at SUNY Old Westbury, the Nassau County Math Olympiad at Kellenberg High School, and the Long Island Math Fair held at Hofstra University.
Assessment Information
Students are assessed regularly throughout the year and participate in the Next Generation Learning Standards 3-8 Mathematics Assessment program as well as taking the Common Algebra Regents Examination in the eighth grade classes.
